Export Success for Start-Up Company
Posted 19th July 2019
A new North Yorkshire company, Anthropods & Co Ltd, has achieved export success in the Netherlands.
The Anthropod Daddy Long Legs, a five-metre-high glamping pod, was installed and commissioned this week at a large holiday park, Camping Vreehorst, in north eastern Netherlands, close to the German border. The pod which sleeps a family of four is already fully booked, claims site owner, Jan van der Heide. The first guests stayed in the pod on the day it was commissioned.
The Anthropod concept was created by Rik Currie, an English industrial designer who designed the double-decker trains for Netherlands Railways. The pod has full on-grid facilities including a WC, shower and wash basin, cooking hob, oven and electric heating. It can be used in extreme conditions throughout the year and has a reinforced roof structure to combat snow load. It uses Eco-friendly recycled plastic bottles as insulation, recycled polypropylene for the wet room and western red cedar for the exterior cladding, the wood’s natural oils mean it requires no maintenance.
The Harrogate based company was launched in September 2018 and produces a range of micro dwellings and pods and is currently in negotiation with major event organisation, based in Seville Spain, for twenty pop-up hotel pods.
